Better Medical Welcomes Adelaide Hills Dr Joanna McLeod to Mt Barker South Medical Centre

Better Medical has recently welcomed Dr Joanna McLeod to our team at Mt Barker South Medical Centre, located in the picturesque Adelaide Hills.

Having previously studied an Advanced Diploma in Natural Medicine and a Bachelor of Science, Dr McLeod chose Medicine as a career because she felt it was a job she would be happy doing for a long time; it combined working with people, contributing to the local community, and would be a career in which she could excel in a variety of special interest areas. “Since obtaining Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, my career as a GP has provided me with many opportunities to continue my professional development and to grow further personally. At some stage, I’d like to get involved in teaching or research too,” says Dr McLeod.

“I’ve enjoyed joining the team at Mt Barker South Medical Centre because the clinic closely aligns with my patient-centred values and the way I like to practice medicine. I also have an opportunity to work in a great team with excellent facilities and a diverse patient population. However, I am most excited about getting to know the Mount Barker community - the staff, patients, and the local area,” says Dr McLeod.

Dr McLeod is no stranger to the Adelaide Hills region, having joined Better Medical from the Norton Summit Medical Centre. Prior to this, Dr McLeod completed GP training at a Hampstead Gardens clinic in Adelaide’s northern suburbs and gained hospital experience at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South Australia.

“Having worked for a couple of years at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, I have a lot of experience treating paediatrics. I love working with children and their families, not only because of my experience, but also because I have a young family of my own. I also have a special interest in women’s health, preventative health, lifestyle modification, and support for those wanting to improve their risk factors for disease, such as weight loss, exercise, sleep, and stress management,” says Dr McLeod.

When Dr McLeod isn’t working, she leads a busy life with her two young daughters (ages 9 and 4 years), and she has recently purchased a beautiful new home in Aldgate. Dr McLeod enjoys travelling, running and general fitness, cooking (excessively vegetable-laden foods are her specialty!), and spending time with her family and friends.

Mt Barker South Medical Centre is located at 58 Wellington Road, Mount Barker. To book an appointment with Dr Joanna McLeod, please call the clinic on (08) 8391 2055 or book online at https://bit.ly/2KB9IHf.
