Aged Care GPs

Supporting GPs to deliver high-quality residential care.

How Better Medical can support you in Aged Care.

At Better Medical, our Aged Care GP services are built to remove the administrative and operational barriers often faced in residential aged-care settings. We provide a structured, fully supported model that empowers GPs to deliver comprehensive, coordinated, and proactive medical care for residents.

Our experienced team manages the administrative, clinical, and logistical tasks required to ensure smooth communication, timely consultations, and accurate care coordination. This support framework allows GPs to focus on what matters most — providing high-quality, compassionate care to residents.

We understand the importance of collaboration between GPs, nursing staff, and facility management to maintain continuity of care. By partnering with Better Medical, GPs gain access to a dedicated support network that simplifies practice operations, enhances communication with families and facilities, and leads to better health outcomes for residents.

Why choose Better Medical?

Delivering high-quality care to residents in aged care and residential care facilities (RACFs/RCFs) is both clinically rewarding and professionally fulfilling. Better Medical’s proven model provides GPs with the structure, support, and flexibility to focus on patient care — without the administrative burden.

Reduced Administration

Our dedicated team manages clinical documentation, transfers notes, and handles day-to-day coordination — giving you more time to focus on patient care, not paperwork.

Stable and Predictable Income

With structured processes for recalls, reminders, care plans, and referrals — along with telehealth options — you’ll maintain a consistent income base and optimise billing efficiency.

Medicare Billing Incentives

Participating GPs can access the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI), providing up to $300 per patient per year for the GP and $130 per patient per year for the practice.

Structured Schedule

We’ll coordinate a regular day and time for your aged care visits (no after-hours or weekend commitments), providing balance, consistency, and income stability throughout your week.

Variety and Flexibility

Enjoy a refreshing change from the clinic setting by providing care in RACFs/RCFs. Aged care practice brings variety to your week and the satisfaction of supporting patients who need continuity of care most.

Reduced Travel

We aim to pair you with facilities close to home, minimising time on the road. With secure remote access, you can complete notes and follow-up tasks from home after your rounds.

Align With Your Clinical Interests

If you have a passion for palliative care, chronic disease management, or geriatric medicine, this program enables you to apply your interests in a supportive, well-structured environment.

Professional Growth

Partnering with Better Medical can help you expand both your aged care and in-clinic patient base, as residents’ families often seek care from the same trusted GP.

Comprehensive Support

You’ll be backed by a dedicated Better Medical team who manage billing, administration, and scheduling — so you can focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional patient care.

Comprehensive Support for GPs

Better Medical’s Aged Care service is built on a coordinated support framework, ensuring GPs can focus on patient care while we handle the administrative, clinical, and operational details. Our Administration, Nursing, and Management teams work together to deliver seamless, compliant, and efficient care across every stage of the patient journey.

Administration Team

Our administration team provides comprehensive clerical and billing support to streamline workflows and reduce administrative burden. This includes:

  • Setting up patient files in daily medical software
  • Transferring clinical notes and information into billing systems
  • Completing billings as instructed by the GP and monitoring claims to minimise the risk of over-servicing under Medicare
  • Verifying patient eligibility for services such as 731, 903, and CMA items
  • Adding, maintaining, and monitoring recalls and reminders to maximise billing revenue and ensure continuity of care
  • Scheduling 731 appointments when due, managing billing upon GP completion, and updating reminders accordingly
  • Performing HPOS checks and coordinating RMMR appointments upon receipt of reports, with ongoing reminder adjustments as required

Nursing Team

Our experienced nursing team provides clinical and administrative support to GPs, ensuring high-quality care and accurate documentation. This includes:

  • Collating medical information within daily medical software to support comprehensive care plans (CMAs) and accurate referrals
  • Monitoring and managing recall and reminder systems at a clinical level
  • Providing direct clinical assistance to the GP as needed during consultations
  • Supporting vaccination processes, including conducting Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) checks and managing uploads

Management Team

Our management team oversees all operational aspects of the Aged Care program, ensuring compliance, communication, and continuity of care. Their support includes:

  • Developing and maintaining structured, documented policies and processes to mitigate medico-legal risk for GPs
  • Managing all issues and correspondence between the GP and the RACF/RCF to ensure smooth operations
  • Coordinating GP leave and arranging appropriate cover within the GP group
  • Enforcing communication protocols between facilities and GPs to ensure timely issue resolution
  • Monitoring resident allocations per GP and capping numbers as needed to maintain manageable workloads

Why RACFs Choose Us?

Supporting GPs to deliver high-quality health care to patients in residential care.

The benefits of our structured model extend to residential aged care and residential care facilities, including:

Consistent clinical care

Having scheduled attendance of a GP at a facility and allowing nursing staff continued contact via the specialised aged care support team during business hours provides residents with exceptional and consistent medical care. Having a GP regularly attend a facility reduces hospital admissions for the residents and can help to prevent exacerbation of ongoing medical conditions. Consistency of care cannot be found with the regular use of after-hours GP services due to these services having a high level of GP rotation.

Resident’s confidence

A regular GP will develop a professional and caring rapport that instils confidence in both the resident and their family. Understanding they are receiving the best possible care available in their end of life journey brings everyone involved peace and assurance. This instils confidence in the RACF/RCF’s services and reputation in the community.

Management-to-management communication

Our model of care provides the RACF/RCF access to communicate directly with Your Doctor in Aged Care’s Aged Care Manager to address and rectify any issues or concerns. This level of communication helps to mitigate any risk to the residents, RACF/RCF or our GPs.

Remote access

Allowing our team remote access saves RACF/RCF staff time and effort by not having to print, scan or email doctor’s notes, medication charts, care plans and patient demographics. Our team gather the required information for the GP and completes the CMA within the recommended six weeks to support the RACF/RCF AFCI funding. Having remote access, the RACF/RCF can retrieve information in the GP’s notes in real-time. We work very closely with the RACF staff and the GP.

RACF funding

Additionally, the increase of resident numbers and the appeal of the facility can be due to consistent and structured GP access and stability.

Continuity of care

Our model of GP support allows the same GP to attend to patients and continue to monitor and adjust their care needs with regular visits; also providing the GP with time to focus on the patient by eliminating the bulk of administration that is required in RACF settings.

Bulk-billed health care

Our GP services are bulk-billed to those who hold a current Medicare or DVA card. This alleviates some of the financial stress for patients and their families, allowing patients optimal health care with no out of pocket cost.

Scheduled Visits

When GPs have a structure behind them and the ability to schedule standard weekly visits to RACFs, it gives patients and their families emotional security around their health care needs. It also allows patients’ families to schedule their day around the GP visit if the family wish to discuss any matters with the GP.

Relationships

Knowing their GP brings comfort, compassion and emotional support to a patient and their family during the end of life pathway. Building a strong relationship with the GP at this time in the patient’s life will ease the patient in their journey.

End of Life Support

With our model of support to the GP, it gives the GP time to spend with the patient and their family to plan and execute an end of life plan when the time comes. This ensures the patients’ needs are met in the most comforting and professional way and eases the burden for the families at this emotional time.
