Better Medical is pleased to welcome GP Registrar, Dr Justin Choong to Hahndorf Medical Centre in South Australia.

Dr Choong is nearing completion of his general practice training with The Royal College of General Practitioners. He has worked in a clinic for the past 12 months, and previously at both the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals in Adelaide, where he completed his internship and residency in areas including general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, palliative care, and the emergency department.

“I’m excited to join the team. They’re really kind and supportive which has made settling into the clinic very easy and means I can focus on getting to know my patients which is important to the delivery of high-quality care,” says Dr Choong.

Dr Choong says it was this building of relationships in a way that helps people that first led him to consider a career in medicine.

“I chose medicine because it is a combination of both art and science and is a challenging career that will stimulate me intellectually. The healthcare industry is rapidly evolving so there’s always new developments and areas to learn, particularly in primary healthcare. As a doctor, I’m able to use what I learn in a way that helps patients, and building a relationship with a patient is key to really understanding and managing their health and wellbeing,” says Dr Choong.

Dr Choong is passionate about working with a diverse range of clinical presentations and enjoys all aspects of general practice, including children’s health, men’s and women’s health, mental health, chronic disease, preventative medicine, and minor surgical procedures. He is an accredited obstetrics shared care and palliative shared care general practitioner and has completed accredited contraceptive implant training.

Outside of medicine, Dr Choong enjoys music, exercise, martial arts, and the outdoors.
